Strapless dress:
this is the neckline that you can wear almost ANY kind of necklace with.
don't make it too long, or else it'll crowd the neckline.
suggestions: choker, y-drop, back dangle, lariat, pendant... feel free to improvise on this very versatile neckline
Sweetheart dress:
this is the one where the dress is kinda heart shaped over your chest
suggestions: the same as the strapless!
scoop dress:
also a very liberal neckline
suggestions: same as strapless
portrait/off the shoulder:
the curviness also creates a style that fits with just about any necklace
suggestions: same as strapless
halter:
this one kind of gets difficult. If it is either a) low cut or b) cut wide, then you can wear a necklace; if it's high or narrow, stick with your earrings!
suggestions: ydrop, pendant, lariat
Bateau dress:
since it's such a classy neckline, you'll need a simple necklace to keep from going overboard.
keep close to the throat because otherwise, things get complicated
suggestions: choker, princess
Jewel dress:
you want to keep close to the throat with this dress as well, because the neckline is high
suggestions: same as the Bateau
low back dress:
if your dress is low back, you wanna show off the necklace from the front AND the back!
suggestions: back dangle or a lariat that ties in the back
square dress:
since a square neckline is so straight, a curvy necklace will create a more refined look!
suggestions: choker or princess
V-Neck:
you'll need to choose a necklace that matches the cut.
for example, if it's cut high, you'll need a simpler, shorter necklace to keep it simple
suggestions: y drop, pendant, lariat, back dangle
asymmetric dress
DON'T DO IT! don't wear a necklace: symmetrical necklaces will interfere with the off-balanced look... try earrings instead!
WHEW! that took a while to write! all right, remember just to choose a dress first that you like the best. then, look at the neckline of the dress you're choosing on wearing. look for that neckline here and then match your jewelry with it cuz it's always best to revolve accessories around the outfit, not the other way around. if your kind of neckline isn't here, or if you don't know what some of these necklines are, just ask i'll try to elaborate
