I don't think eyeliner would be a problem. A few tips that come to my mind would be not to line the inner rims
(with dark liner), and dark smoky eyes are probably over powering. Chocolate brown is probably a good shade to try, with a nude shadow. Another trick you might want to try is to line the top lids only.
Sometimes things that work for one person might not for another, so trying out various tips at home when you have time to play (and clean up, and try something else!) is good.
