Default Your opinion on this treatment..?

I've heard from many people that gentle, home-use tapes like regular Scotch-tape is great for acne scars.

Quote:
What you do is this:
Apply a strip of tape to a portion of your face with an acne scar. Press down firmly, then strip off very gently. You will notice tons of dead skin cells stuck to the tape.

Never go over the same area twice in one day.
DO NOT do this while on treatments like Accutane or using harsh peels.

Do this 3-4 times a week, then work your self up to once everyday.

Eventually, you will not only notice finer, smoother skin, but a diminishing of your acne scars.

I tried it for two weeks, and I have to admit I THINK the redness went down! But i'm not so sure continuing it; does it sound abrasive or damaging? Opinions, anyone?

Well I have never heard of it, I guess its along the same principal of the Biorne strips. The only thing I would worry about is how much your stretching yours skin, as well as a Allergy to the type of adhesive used on the tape.
I wouldn't but thats me.

acne scars involve the deeper layers of the skin and I think the tape would only remove some sufrace "debris" like a little oil and dead skin cells. Lazer would be more effective and permanent for scars like pock marks and Hydroquinone cream is very effective in lightening scars (as well as freckles and age spots). With the cream, you have to wait 1 month before you see results. If your scars are "raised" rather than pitted-a cream called DERMATIX is suppose to be excellent.

Hey i have pretty big and dark acne scras, i have even undergone laser, but as well as that being quite pricey it didn't really work and i endedup with more scars from spots that became more inflammed after laser treatment. But i haev 4 teh last 2 weeks been applying lemon juice, leaving it on durin teh night and washing it off in the morning. My scars have definitely faded, it will take another few weeks 4 teh scars to fade further but its acheap home made way of lightening acne scars

I've never heard of that. I don't think it's something I would try. It seems like it might be a little painful. But if it works for some people, then that's cool.

yeah, judi, they do stretch the skin which is why you have to take it off really gently and slowly, but continual use will probably result in a loss of elasticity, don't you think?

do you think there are any harmful effects from the adhesive on the tape? i wash my face with water/toner after taking off the tape so...

The other part about the adhesive even thought you clean really well after maybe you won't have problems I guess what I was trying to say was if anyone has any allergies to adhesive products do not try this.

Yeah, the adhesives used on Scotch Tape is not made and meant for use on the skin.

There are many adhesive tapes out there that are meant for specific applications. For example you wouldn't use Duct Tape on electrial wires and use Electrical Tape on plumbing fixtures. None of them say: "If you're on a tight budget, use on the face..."

Facial skin is very sensitive. And applying adhesive tapes to it can be harmful. Even some make-up adhesives are harmful to the skin after prolonged usage, and we're talking medical grade prosthetic adhesives. Yes there has been improvements in the safety of them over the past 5 years, yet they are made specifically for use on the skin.

I recommend using strips that have been tested and meant for use on the skin such as Biore because the ingredients are compatable for the face.
