Default acidity and teeth

The tooth enamel consists of 96% mineral and the rest is organic substances and water. since of it's high mineral content, it is the hardest substance in the human body but because of it's mineral content, it makes it brittle too.

The high mineral content of enamel, which makes it hardest in the human body, also makes it prone to a demineralization often occurs as cavities.

Suger from fruit juices, lollies, canned drinks coats your teeth with bacteria and the bacteria produces lactic acid that lower the PH level in your mouth. The hydroxyapatite crystals then causing tiny holes to appear on the surface it is , unseen by the eye, but can be felt with a sharp metal point. This causes the bacteria to penetrate deeper, dissolving the minerals causing the holes to widen and become worse.

It is not the amount of sugar consumed but the frequency consumed for example; it is better for oral health to eat a large dessert after dinner than snacking on a bag of lollies for the whole day as the salivia in your mouth takes at least 30 minutes to neutralise the PH level and also the enamel is vunerable as it's dimeneralised and it takes 30 minutes for the minerals to build up again.

If the cavity gets into the dentin, there's no turning back as the part of the enamel over it will break off as the enamal becomes too brittle as the dentin supports it.

another way that the enamel can be destroyed is by direct chemicals like lemon juice, hydrochloric acid, vineger and hard tooth brushes.

Food like milk and cheese raises your PH level in your mouth and chewing gum produces more salivia to neutralise your mouth, the also got calcium and phosphate that encourages remineralisation.

Lollies that stick to your teeth are bad as they reduce your PH in your mouth for extended periods.

hope it helps
