I have an acne prone skin but since I'm under medication it was well under control. Recently I started using St. Ives Apricot scrub and the acne got a bit worse.. should I discontinue using this product? What's the reason for this kinda reaction?

I suspect that the St Ives scrub may be a bit too harsh for acne prone skin, and the irritation causes breakouts. (just my opinion, of course!)
I say this because I haven't ever had any luck with that St Ives scrub either, I've tried it a couple of times and got the same reaction. It's a rather coarse scrub.

It feels good just after using it and aft its moisturised. I love the smooth feeling afterwards. The Apricot scrub IS for blemish/oil control. but it's giving the opposite results........................................... well...i guess i should stop using it.. thanks blackbird. and to all who would reply

I know you'll probably laugh, but this is a good cleanser for oily skin, acne skin, dry skin. What cleans oil? Oil cleans oil. The OCM *Oil Cleansing Method* is a great gentle way to cleanse your skin.
The original method is: 3/4 virgin olive oil mixed with 1/4 castor oil (the castor oil helps pull out blackheads and fights acne) I use: 1/2 olive oil with 1/2 sweet almond oil * when I mixed this, I used 1/4 cup of each) YOu can add a few drops of your favorite Essential Oil to this, I add peppermint for a zing. Shake well before each use. I use two squirts and gently apply this all over your face. Warm a wet cloth as hot as you can stand it and lay this over your face and relax for a couple of minutes. Remove the cloth and gently rub your skin a bit more, making sure you get the creases around your nose. Gently wipe the oil off with a dry cloth. If you feel funny about this, you can use a warm wet cloth. Follow up with a cold/cool splash. I have oily skin and use this method 3-4 times a week. The rest of the time I wash with water only, using a warm cloth, followed by the cold. I will be 50 years old next month and people tell me I have the skin and hair of a 25 year old. Now, if I only had a 25 year old body! Another good thing for acne? Finely ground Mineral Make-up. I've tried several brands and so far my favorite one is Everyday Minerals. They will even give you a sample kit free, with enough product for many many uses. You pay $3.50 for shipping. If you don't like the colors you get, you can order another kit, choosing different shades. I've got two sample kits and don't need to order full sized products yet. I'm still having fun mixing shades and trying different blushes, concealers, etc. Mineral make up has several 'pros'. It doesn't stain your clothes, it doesn't melt off your face in hot weather, it is good for acne, oily/dry skin. A little goes a long way and in the long run is much much less expensive. PLUS, it's all natural minerals , NO CHEMICALS. |

Hi! My skin didnt agree with this scrub either. I think scrubs are way too harsh on the face. When I wash my face at night I use a washcloth and it does just fine with the right amount of exfoilation. You might want to use a toner after you wash your face that also acts as an exfoilator. I use Clinique's Clarifying Lotion but there are many at places like Target and Walmart too! Hope this helped!

the Clinique Clarifying lotion is quite a good product because it contains beta hydroxy acid which helps to exfoliate inside the pore- thus, helping to decrease the chance of a new blemish forming. It is better than glycolic acid for treating acne-prone skin because it is able to penetrate oil and get into a pore. You can also use this with benzoyl peroxide for even better results. One product for exfoliating and the next one for disinfecting.
