I have finally, at the age of almost 50, gotten rid of the little blackheads on and around my nose. Or should I say whiteheads, because I had scrubbed the top of them off all the time.
I've been using the OCM, Oil Cleansing Method. This really does work on opening up your pores and cleaning them, while at the same time, being very gentle. Castor oil is a cleansing oil, in more ways than one. Here's the recipe:3/4 parts virgin olive oil 1/4 part castor oil You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil scent, I use peppermint, it gives me a zing. Shake well each time before using. I have mine in a ceramic lotion bottle. I use two squirts and rub my hands together, the apply all over my face, making sure to get all around the nose, and wherever else you have stubborn blackheads. Take a hot or as hot as you can stand, wet washcloth and lay it on your face, this is steaming your pores open and allowing the oil to clean them out. Once the cloth starts cooling, use it to gently wipe the oil off your face. If you feel like you need to use more water to do this, it's ok. Then use cold water , either just splash it, or apply it with a cloth. This closes the pores and makes them appear smaller. I've been using this for about a month now, 3-4 times a week. It is great for removing my mineral make-up. The rest of the time when I wash my face, I use water only. I didn't really notice anything until about the 4th time I used it. I was applying my jojoba oil as moisturizer, preparing to put on mineral make-up and I saw little white flecks on my nose. I put on my glasses to see better and it was little black/whiteheads coming out! I barely ran my finger up my nose and they all started just coming out! It's true, oil does remove oil, weird huh? ![]() |

After doing this a couple of times, can I use a pore strip to take them out ? If I wash my face with cleanser, will it dry out my face too much ? Bye the way thanks for the advice!!!!

It took me about 7 cleansings before I noticed the black/white heads coming out on their own. It may take a while to open those pores up deep enough, especially if you've never really steamed them open before. I'd hold off on the pore strips, but it's up to you. I love finding things that work that are cost effective. Also, if you are afraid of drying your skin, I would not use castor oil in your mix. I'm having pretty good luck with the 50-50 mix of virgin olive oil and sweet almond oil. You can cook with both of them too, so it's pretty handy. I normally use jojoba oil as my moisturizer, but I'm running low, so I'm trying out some organic coconut oil. It works well, but it takes a bit longer for my skin to soak it up. Jojoba oil just sinks right in. ![]() |

I've never tried just straight olive oil, so I can't say. It won't hurt to try it. And as for clogging pores, if you apply the oil lightly and then steam your face, the pores open up and the oil penetrates and helps soften the blackheads. I only use about 1 teaspoon of my oil mix to do my whole face and neck. Oil breaks down oil. My oily t-zone has really diminished since I started this. |
