Default Are Your Beauty Products Killing You??

Do you ever wonder what kind of chemicals are added to your cosmetic products? This site has numerous brands of just about everything and they list what is in them. I have shared this site with everyone that I know since finding it a few years ago,so they can become aware of what brands/products are safe to use. I think I need to go through it again myself and make sure I am not using something that could be harmful to my health and to my family.

Wow, very intersting website. I spent quite a while browsing around, and I'm surprised at how some of the companies/products rated.

Yes, I agree, we are all putting chemical soup in and on our bodies. Since I found out about this, about a year ago I have;

*Gone completely to Mineral make-up

*Use the OCM to wash my face, no soap at all

*Use either jojoba, organic coconut or grapeseed oil as face moistuizer

*Choose Shampoos with a mild sulfate that rinses easily (I dilute my shampoo anyway, it helps keep the itchy flakies away) I tried the sulfate-free shampoos, but they were actually harsher than the Nature's Gate Products.

*Use only Conditioners that are silicone free (and there are tons of them out there)

*Use NO products that contain petroleum, mineral oil or silicone (silicone isn't the same as silicon or silica. Silica and silicon are actually helpful in our diets, they are natural. Silicone is a man made plastic.

*using a sugar/oilbased body scrub every time I shower, I really need no lotion afterward, I just like it (it also has no petroleum, or mineral products in it) because I'm a girly girl.

I have moderate to severe FMS, and I do believe that finding natural things to use has helped me.

Hi justgreen, I just wanted to ask you what is FMS? I am not familiar with that. Did you mean PMS?

Smile going natural

i really like what you wrote about using only natural products, I am trying to do the same ,my question is, what can I use on my face to prevent and treat wrinkles, I am 35 years old everyone says I have no wrinkles and i am trying to keep it that way...I currently use Derma E and Yves rocher skin care products....I try to avoid products with quimicals in them allthough I find it kind of hard....I have dandruff and the only thing that keeps it under control is head and shoulders, I use aloe vera conditioner from Jason Naturals...
so If you have any suggestions please share them with me....

thank you kindly

Question for you Marie what do you think of the Yves rocher line, I have never tried it so I am looking for some insight to thoughts on their products.

FMS is Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Soft tissue and nerve ending pain.

You might find this helpful for your dandruff.

Light 100% cold pressed pure oils are wonderful to prevent and treat wrinkles. I use jojoba mostly, as it is the oil closest to our own natural sebum and skin just soaks it up! It' s a wonderful moisturizer before make-up and a great night time treat. It's also very cost effective. One 4-ounce bottle costs about $7-8 and lasted me over a year, using it both on my face and also on the ends of my hair. I use 4-5 drops of this for my whole face.

Organic coconut oil is nice too, it's just a bit heavier and needs a little more time to soak in. I think I paid $8 for a PINT jar of this and you can also eat it or cook with it. To moisturize your whole face only takes a fingernail full of it. Just imagine the money you'll be saving, not to mention keeping the chemicals off your face.

This week I'm giving grapeseed oil a try. My secret hair twin sent me some and it is wonderfully light, has no odor and I think it's probably in the middle between the jojoba and the coconut. I think I used 4 drops of this yesterday morning on my face. I'm going to try it on my hair later this afternoon.

I've been using natural products for over a year now and folks have told me I have 25 year old skin. I'll be 50 this month and my crow's feet are hardly noticable and my skin is soft and smooth. This is hard to acheive where I live now, as it is harsh and very windy , especially in winter time.

For cleansing, I use the Oil Method Cleansing routine. I mix virgin olive oil and sweet almond oil, a 50/50 mix, and a few drops of peppermint EO. Two small squirts of this is enough to wash my face and neck. I know you'll doubt this, but this method is extremely helpful for people with oily/acne skin. You have to remember, oil cleans oil. Not to mention, it gets down inside the pores and softens the dirt and the blackheads/whiteheads just ooze out on their own. I wouldn't have believed it until I tried it. I noticed this happening about the third time I washed. Now, in the above link, the original oils used for this recipe are olive oil and castor oil. If you have dry, or delicate skin, castor oil is VERY cleansing and can dry your face. But it does the best job of erradicating blackheads!!!

Oh ok thanks for telling me. I don't have FMS but I do suffer from nerve pain myself. I have 2 herniated discs in my cspine and in my lumbar area. So I know what that feels like. Are you on any kind of treatment?
