Gosh, without a photo it would be hard to tell.
Are you looking at a brand where you could go to a cosmetics counter and try it on? Or if it's a drugstore brand, will they take it back for exchange if it's the wrong shade? I know Walgreens allows returns on cosmetics. If you're going to purchase it at a store rather than online if the bottle is clear and you can see the product you could hold the bottle up to your jawline and compare. Not the best way to make a match, but it's a starting point.

The best way is to go to a cosmetic department with samples and sample the different tones on your jaw line, try to judge the color on your skin in natural light, even if this means bring a hand mirror and walking out side to see how good of a match to your skin it is.

Asian skin can be fair to darker, and I'm not sure if you're referring to the moisturizers that self-tan, or tinted moisturizers. If you're not sure of your skin tone and are looking for one that self-tans, I would go with the lighter of the choices to begin with, to avoid streaking. And tinted moisturizers tend to be a little more forgiving than foundations, as they have less pigment and blend into the skin, but as Judi said, best to test on the jawline for the best match.
