A freckle is a small brownish spot develop on the skin after exposure to sunlight. Freckles may be brown, red, black, yellow or light-brown in color. People who have fair complexions commonly have freckles. There are many type of freckles-lentigoes, ephelids or lentigines.
They are simply tan or brown that have been exposed to the skin. Freckles are often found on the hands, face or any other part of the body that has been exposed to the sun. You should use protective sunscreen lotions or cream; it helps slow the appearance of freckles. How do freckles develop? After exposure to sunlight, the outer layer of the skin thickens and the pigment-producing cells develop the pigment melanin. Types of freckle Ephelides: Ephelides are light brown or red in color and appear during the summer and fade in the winter. Mostly people with fair complexions affected by this disease. Patients must be used sunscreen regularly. It helps to reduce the ephelides type freckle. Lentigines: Lentigines type freckle most often found in children. The appearance of freckle is tan, black or brown in color. They don’t fade in the winter. Treatment Bleaching creams: Use products containing kojic acid and hydroquinone. Apply these products on the affected area for a month. It is very good treatment to reduce freckles. Cryosurgery: A light freeze with liquid nitrogen is a useful to treat freckles. Apply it over the affected area and get a good result. Tretinoin: Tretinoin also helps to make freckles lighter. Applied it over the affected area for a few days. Laser treatment: Laser treatment is an expensive treatment, but it is a safe and simple procedure. Lasers that produce a green light can eliminate freckles effectively. Freckles can be faded with sun protection with sunscreen lotions or creams daily. You should use anti-aging creams or antioxidants such as alpha hydroxy acids, retinoids, vitamin-C and retinoids. Important Tips to prevent freckles from the skin One should use sun block or sunscreen with SPF-30 Always wear a long hat or shirt with long sleeves before going to under sun. Avoid or minimize go to outside under sunrays Make sure about checking of drugs that one applies to the skin or take it internally cause skin sensitivity like antibiotics or birth control pills and topical products, which are caused sun sensitivity containing benzoyl peroxide and alpha hydroxy acids. One should take medications as prescribed by the health care providers. One should apply OTC fading creams including hydroquinone and follow the precautions and directions on the package.
