Cleanser is to remove dirt and makeup from the day

Toner is to remove any last bits of oil or dirt that may still be on the skin after cleaning, also some have so called pore tightening ( which is just alchol)
and more than anything helps the skin feel refreshed.

Exfoliator are used to remove dead skin cells and help your moisturizers do a bit better of a job. there are many and many have different uses so I'm just going topical here.

Hope this helps, I have not gone into great detail but there are many posts on this subject you may find quite helpful.

Moisturizer are made to keep the skin hydrated and plumped and again there are a world of different ones that are used for different problems.

I clean and moisture in the morning then I just use the cleanser in the evening. I've heard somewhere that your skin should "starve" over night. But I think you should moisture in the evening too if your skin is dry.
r
emeber it's important to use moisturizer even if your skin isn't dry. many with oily skin tends to dry out the skin which makes your skin produce more oil.

personally I think toner is unnessesary.

don't exfoliate too often, once a week is enough.

Here is some tidbits...

Cleansing..removes unwanted dirt, debris, makeup and toxins. Important to do AM and PM. Sulfate free cleansers are becoming more readily availiable and are great if you are dry and/or sensitive. They will help protect your skin's lipid barrier.

Toner...used as an extra step to remove any remaining dirt and/or to give that extra clean feeling. May be used to balance ph as well.

Exfoliation...crucial step in regimen to lift away dead surface skin, regenerate new cells and prep skin for deeper penetration of products that follow. Depending on product can be done daily or weekly.

Moisturize...does more than just hydrate and soften skin. It protects it from pollution, free radicals and airborne bacteria. A great moisturizer is key to strengthening the skin's surface barrier, supporting the immune system and making the complexion more radiant.

And dont forget to protect the skin from the damaging UVA and UVB rays. Super important.

Hope that helps a little.

ok thanks guys.

So when I was at my nans yesterday she said I have dry/sensitive skin and it's a bit scabby at the moe.

So she gave me some cleansing wipes and moisturizer - so I will use the wipes once in the morning and moisturize twice a day.

As for exfoliating I am not sure what to do/use exactly

My nan said that for dry/sensitive skin using just water & soap is probably not the best thing so do you think I shouldn't use water and soap and just cleanse once a day and moisturize twice a day? Is that enough or should I add anything more into my 'beauty regime' ?

Cleansing is best done twice daily, morning and night. In the morning, it helps prepare your skin for makeup application, and at night it removes all of the day's makeup, dirt & grime. If you have dry skin you might want to look for a cream cleanser, it will be much more gentle on your skin than soap & water.

Cleanser: To remove all dirt and sebum from your face. It also removers makeup.

Toner: To clean off any leftovers of cleansing oil, etc. It is mostly used though to give the skin a refreshed feeling.

Exfoliater: To remove dead skin cells and help remove and prevent blackheads.

Moisturizer: To form a layer between your skin and outside factors that can cause skin damage.

Toner is the thing you need most. thats why so many people that cleanse there skin good wonder why there skin isnt getting better, once you cleanse your pores are still left open thats what the toner is for more than anything else you should use a damp warm towel on your face for a minute then cleanse then splash your face with cold water to close pores then tone.
