Unhappy First time....

Hey everybody,
This is my first time posting on here but I've been hooked on the forums for a few days now. ANYHOW I'm fixing to have to go to the gynecologist this is going to be my first time and I'm SOOOOO nervous. Is there anything I should do to prepare for it?I'll be shocked if I dont start crying from being embarrased .I'm one of those girls who don't undress in front of ANYONE.
Kris

haha, nice you have you around! introduce yourself on the introductions page if you haven't done so, so we can get to know you a little bit more!

I know what you mean... I'm terrified of the gynecologist!

One example I have that kind of relates is the fact that me and this guy had to do this activity together for the place I volunteer at. At first I was sooo incredibly uncomfortable and embarassed by it because I was thrown off by the guy... but I soon realized that he wasn't over anxious or nervous about it at all. If he isn't, then why should I be? I'm just psyching myself out!

Remember, he or she has been professionally trained in this field. For them, it's the same as a dentist examining your teeth, or a podiatrist examining your feet. There's nothing unnatural or sexual about it for them. You should bounce off that, and realize that this is something every woman has gone through. From the very young to the very old. And now you!

I know the first visit to the gy can be pretty tense, but it does get better with time, no one likes them but women have to have them for the sake of our health.
You will not have to undress in front of the doctor, they normally leave the room and give you a gown to wear.
You also can request a nurse to be present if you feel shy or embarrassed about the internal, that way it sort of gives you the comfort that knowing she goes through it as well, and they do understand.
when they do the internal try to stay as relaxed as possible, tensing yourself will only cause more discomfort. Pick a spot on the ceiling and focus on that while taking slow deep breathes. Its over very quickly and you will be glad that you are taking care of yourself and health.
so don't worry, and keep one thing in mind if the undressing still bothers you that they have seen probably 1000+ women. And that you are just another patient in for a check up. Good luck and do not Worry.

Hi Kristen!

Welcome to the forum! You are in for a treat and the two ladies above, Smile and Judi are just awesome! They really know how to run a forum and make ALL feel welcome.

I don't know what to tell you at the GYN except relax the best you can. Um er, I would say let us know how it went when it's over, but seeing as how you are already a bit shy and this is personal, let's just consider it T.M.I. (too much information!)

Good luck, and see you on the message boards!
