you know- I don't believe in these detox diets- in my opinion, it would just slow down your metabolism because your body goes into starvation mode....it would scream "where are my calories....don't do this to me...I need energy!!!!!!!!!!!" That's just my opinion- if I ever tried that- I'd feel sick, tired and cranky the whole time. A friend of mine went on one of those a year ago and said she would never do it again because of the above reasons.

Thanks judi.

It takes a lot of discipline, but it's worth it in the long run.

It's not like fasting, not the one I'm doing, anyway. I still eat three meals a day. It's just healthier foods like fruits and vegetables and brown rice, etc.. Water is the main fluid intake which isn't a big deal for me since that's what I mainly drink on a daily basis.

I've been reading a Detox book, which covers all the bases from diet to body and mind. It's really been insightful. You definitely feel a refreshed feeling after a few days of detoxing.

If anyone's interested, the book is Detox (The process of cleansing and restoration) by Parragon Publishing

I heard that when you go on a detox diet, you should drink lots of juices. They can be fruit/vegetable juices, and i'm sure just plain water works too, but you aren't getting any nutrients from plain tap water.

those are the ones that I think work the best some of the others can cause quite a bit of harm, especially when young people try doing the totally fasting as you know there bodies are still growing and it does slow the metabolism.
so again let me know how it goes for you and I want to take a look for the book you suggested. That again Lynnlee

The one that you explained, LynnLee, is not the ones I am opposed to because what you are doing is still giving your body nutrients and the energy it needs to get through the day. The ones I thought we were talking about were the "fasting" ones where you drink carrot juice all day as an example where your body is prevented from getting the proper nutrients and energy it needs to get through the day. What you are doing is sensible so please don't take it the wrong way-what I was giving my opinion on was those drink-fluid-for-a-week type detox which I firmly believe just messes up your body. I think we were talking about 2 different things!

I agree, that would be torture. I tried fasting once a few years ago. It totally made me weak and as a consequence I ended up getting very sick. It's definitely not the healthiest choice.

I guess there are different detox diets. I went for the one with the most amount of food.

Welcome to the forums, Sonya.

I did mine for five days. But I think it depends on the type of detox diet.

I would recommend buying a detox book, so you'll know all the specifics and avoid any health hazards.
