Thumbs up Latest Walking Recommendations

Current research has shown that only 30% of adults actually meet the recommendations for physical activity and that women are almost twice as inactive as men.

It is estimated that up to two thirds of the population do not take enough exercise to benefit their health and their competence to do everyday jobs.

It also found that people tended to think they were fitter than they actually were and that two thirds of women would become breathless when walking up a 1:20 slope at approx three miles per hour .

Inactivity puts you at a higher risk of heart disease than anything else, including smoking.

Walking can only benefit your health if

You walk at least 5 days a week.

You walk at a brisk pace for your fitness level. Click here for more information about walking at a brisk pace.

Very important - any walking is better than none - so if you are very unfit and/or very overweight or both then check with your doctor and start walking at an appropriate level. Aim to build up gradually, see Step One and start with a gentle stroll.

Ideally the time taken for your walk should be least 30 minutes (but you can divide this into 2 periods of 15 minutes or even 3 periods of 10 minutes if it suits you).

You do not have to be sporty to enjoy walking and if you are overweight and lacking in energy then you will really feel a tremendous benefit - just persevere and keep walking .
Enjoy Ur Walk

So true
what I did to find out how much I walked each day was to wear a pedometer all day, and even when you think you have walked allot you find out its not near as much as you thought. I believe (I might be wrong memory you know) that the average person should have taken 10,000 or more steps per day.
