Yeah I agree that baking soda is good. I mix it with my toothpaste every night!

yes salt is very good, in the old times people used salt when they had sore gums or any other tooth related problem.

I'm a Dental Hygienist and I can assure you that home whitening treatments do not harm or weaken the teeth. They come in different strengths of whitening agent and can make your teeth and gums very sensitive. If you are prone to enamel sensitivity you will probably have trouble bleaching your teeth.
The best thing to do if you experience sensitivity from bleaching is to add some Fluoride gel to your tray and wear that immediately after bleaching. The newer, stronger gels don't have to be worn as long either.
Baking soda will help to whiten teeth but only because it's more abrasive and removes surface stains. It doesn't actually whiten the enamel like bleaching gels do.
Also, be careful about using baking soda too much b/c it can be rough on your teeth.

Hi Melting Clocks. Those bruises you describe on your teeth, were they your baby teeth?
If you fall and hit your front teeth when you're little it can cause your baby teeth to discolor and turn dark. It's similar to a bruise but with teeth it won't go away. If you hit them hard enough to where they were pushed up into your gums they can make contact with your forming permanent teeth. A spot could be made on the front of that tooth.
When your Permanent teeth erupt you will notice the spot on the front of your tooth. It could be any shade of white to yellow to brown. If that's the case whitening won't help it. You'd have to go to your dentist where a filling could be placed over the area.
Hope that helps.
Melanie

I used a bit of lemon juice and baking soda, peroxide too! Not recommended for everyday use but it does work!
