Default Is exposure to bright light for extended periods of time harmful?

If you stay in extremely bright light for long periods of time, like tanning beds, or other sources of bright light, is it harmful? I actually don't do this but I was wondering and thought someone here might know. I'm sure for it to be harmful it would have to be for a long time... and I'm not talking about like sunlight which can give you skin cancer, or can all light give you skin cancer? See this is why I'm asking this question, I don't know.
