Default Some Helpful Tips

I've noticed that there is quite a few overweight threads floating about, (even mine myself) but I've picked up a few helpful tips here and there and decided I would share them, as I'm beginning the infamous "loosing weight" quest myself.
  • Chew your food until you can't chew it anymore, which causes you to get full faster and prevents overeating. It may seem a bit odd at first, but once you get used to it it quickly becomes a habit.
  • Keep tempting foods out of the house, like those wonderful sour cream and onion lays chips. If you simply don't bring it in, it won't be there to tempt you.
  • If you find yourself craving sweet things, try eating something with lots of protein; like meats and cheeses. My mum told me about this, and it's incredibly accurate.
  • As everyone has always been telling you, drink water! But don't expect yourself to start drinking 8 glasses on a regular basis, start small. Maybe one or two cups a day just so you get used to drinking it, and work your way up to 8 glasses.
  • Try to get some food from every food group into your daily eating. Opt for frozen grapes rather than big sugary popsicles. And if you don't particularly care for vegetables, you could always try them with ranch or some other dip.
  • If you eat a lot of salads, go for low-fat dressing. Maybe add meat and cheese bits if you don't already. It makes the salad more of a meal than an actual salad.
  • Now, I know exercising is not everybody's favorite thing to do, but there are other forms of exercise that don't require a big cardiovascular workout. I myself have asthma, and don't enjoy doing running of any kind, but there's things like pilates and yoga that you can get into. I try to do yoga whenever possible, but sometimes it's easier to go with 20 situps and 20 pushups instead. Or even dancing! Don't exercise to the point where your body aches, when you're done with a good workout you should feel loose, tired, and achey the next morning.
  • Find something to do! When most people are bored, they eat. I myself am one too. If you find something to do, like read a good book, go for a walk, or play a board game, you will be less prompted to use eating as a way out of boredom.
  • Lastly, if you're going to enjoy ice cream, you should try topping it with a little bit of cinnamon, which, according to Timothy Brantley, "controls postmeal insulin spikes-and you won't be inclined to go for seconds".

I hope this helps others as much as it's helping me! I'll keep you posted on my progress.

And what's worse, I'm willing to work for it, which scares me.
So I suppose I'm plugging my nose and taking the plunge;
let's show those rookies how it's done.
