Deep Forest Bath:
* 8 cups water * 1 cup juniper needles and berries (or pine, fir or spruce) * 1 handful (7 to 8) eucalyptus leaves * 1/2 cup dried wintergreen leaves * 1/2 cup fresh lavender flowers or leaves * 1 teaspoon whole cloves * 2 cinnamon sticks, 4 inches long * Peeled rind of 1 organic orange Simmer ingredients for 15 to 20 minutes. Strain herbs and pour into warm bathwater. This fragrant, healing bath soothes aching muscles, relaxes and restores. ******************************************* Botanical Infusions: Herbal Steams for Face and Bath: Use these herbs and flowers for normal skin: chamomile, geranium, lavender and ylang-ylang. For sensitive skin, use chamomile, lavender, neroli, rose and sweet violet. For dry skin, use clary sage, marshmallow, rose and sandalwood. For oily skin, use basil, calendula, juniper, lemon and sage. For an herbal body steam, simmer a combination of herbs and flowers suggested below and pour the infusion into warm bathwater. Or tie a cheesecloth bag filled with a handful of herbs near the hot-water tap when filling the tub. To make a facial steam, pour 6 cups boiling water over 2 to 3 handfuls fresh herbs (or 1/4 cup dried), drape towel over head and inhale deeply for 10 mintues. Milk Bath: A floral milk bath is a favorite skin-softening method popular since the days of early Egypt (Cleopatra sprinkled her milk bath with rose petals, lilies and cinnamon bark). Rich in protein, milk softens the skin with its emollient butterfat. Use whole milk or substitute rice, soy, goat or powdered. The healing and fragrant properties of a milk bath can be extended with the addition of these fresh or dried flowers and herbs: calendula, chamomile, dandelion, lavender, lemon balm, lemon verbena, linden flowers, mint, nettle and rose. ~ I came across these today, just thought I'd share 'em. |
