The hair folicles make your arm pits look dark, like a 5 O'clock shadow on men's faces or shaved heads. So it's normal.

The arm pits are very sensitive due to several glands and pressure points there.

You could try laser hair removal.

well, its actually coz many of my friends complain their armpits look darker when they shave most probably because the hair is not completely pulled out.

waxing and plucking is better, but also depends on preference coz it *hurts* i heard you can also try bleaching the armpits would work.

sometimes dark armpits are also caused by :

- pigmentation after giving birth (this happens to some people, not all, both at the armpit, inner thigh and neck area)

- suntanning - the undersides of our arms have very little melanin, so some people expose their armpits in the sun for longer periods of time hoping to tan their under arms. as a result? darkened armpits

- usage of deodorant/anti-pespirant/powder. main problem with this is that a lot of people dun take enough care to reli scrub and clean properly everyday, so the residue of whatever you use on your armpits get stuck and eventually, darkening occurs. after a prolonged period of time, even exfoliation won't work cos it's already deep-rooted. powder is by far the worse among the three in terms of clogging

got this from a derm

Oh my god Tweezing your armpits how painful, but with shaving if you find your dark haired and it shows a bit you can get creams that help the hair grow back softner and not so noticable.

uhm my armpit are not dark because of hair. they are still dark when i completely remove all the hair under my shoulder.
they are dark like my skin is burnt. i think reja v talked about deodorant, and I remembe trying this cream that was supposed to remove the hair just by applying it and washing it off but it made my armpit look worst.

so i really meant what to do to take care of my armpit. I can't stay without shaving them and even if deodorants hurts sometimes I rather burn my armpit than sticking.

Ah... cool, thanks resha_v, never thought about the deodorant thing and the suntanning bit...

I use this thing i like to call a "torture device" lol

its from Remington, it's called Smooth & Sily Hair Removal System

Ever since I used it on my underarms I refuse to shave. The hair actually grows back in MUCH thinner. I used to have a constant irritation because the hair under my arms would grow in thick and rough feeling, but now i dont even notice when it grows back, since it takes so long for it to come back and since it grows in so thin.

the only catch is.. IT HURTS!!!!!! (but i noticed it doesn't hurt nearly as much if you just don't look at it)

I also use this on my arms, legs, and face. my skin never felt so smooth =)

Ouch! I've always shaved, but instead of using shaving cream or soap, I use olive oil to raise the hair and prevent razor burn and irritation. It works really well--I get a very close shave and softer, smoother skin.
