Default Good clothes getting hard to find

Is it just me or are there a lot of really tacky-looking clothes on the racks? I hate crooked seams and uneven stitching. A tailor friend of mine says she is swamped these days with clothes people bought that they liked but aren't quite right and she needs to fix them. So they end up being pricey clothes after all even if they weren't on the rack.

After Christmas I went shopping for some jeans and found the loveliest pair of black ones with neat stitching on the pockets for $5. I couldn't believe it and I actually don't wear them a whole lot because they are so nice!

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like straight seams and hems and good quality cloth. I feel put-together in clothes that are made right. How 'bout you?

I know what you mean. With the very chaply made clothes you can't help wondering WHY it is so cheap, not only because it's poor quality, but most likely sweatshop clothing too. It's hard to know how to shop ethically these days.

I like a bargain, but I still want clothes that don't look like they been sewn by monkeys.
There are 2 or 3 places where I typically shop because I've found them to be the most aceptable. I don't like to wear the same clothes year after year (call me fickle, LOL), so most of my stuff goes to the Goodwill or Hope Outreach after about 3 years any way, unless it was something special.

Yep, it's like quantity has buried quality.

As if sewn by monkies, lol, is right. Or workers that are terribly stressed and just can't take the time to care if the clothes turn out well. I have seen buttons sewn on wrong, sequins sewn on backwards and one collar flap that was about an inch bigger than the other collar flap.

There"s always Macy's but even there. it depends on what Macy's. My town has one that is the worst excuse for a Macy's ever. If I had a thousand bucks I couldn't find much there.

I haven't shopped at Macy's yet (welcome to Northern Nowhere, Oklahoma! LOL), but there's a new one in Oklahoma City, so I must check it out next time I'm headed that way. Probably the highest end department store we have locally is Dillards, but so much of their stuff is either too junior or too grandma, hard to find a happy medium. And the only cosmetics there are Estee Lauder, Lancome and Clinique. Don't get me wrong, I *LIKE* Estee, Lancome and Clinique, but I'd LOVE to visit a few other cosmetic counters!

Blackbird, I think Dillard's has been around forever. In fact, someone told me not too long ago that they thought they could find just about the same "old ladies' loafers" that they saw 30 years ago at Dillard's. I would say that's true of some Penney's and Sears, too.

I'm kind of a sucker for health food store skin care lines because you can usually do the whole sampling thing without the same watchful attention you get at makeup counters in dept stores. Scoop, slather, and run!

LOL Cyndita.

I'm an "open the bottle and smell everything" person myself.
