I've found something interesting.. vegan cosmetics..!!..

Vegan Society Certified Cosmetics...

Why choose organic vegan cosmetics?
# Vegan products do not use or consume animal products of any kind
# All of the products here have been certified by the Vegan Society
# Most make up contains Parabens, Synthetic Fragrance, and Mineral Oil, which are not good for skin
# 81% of women could consume up to 2lbs of lipstick made of toxic chemical ingredients in their lifetime (source: WEN)
# The cosmetics here contain organic & natural ingredients
...a much more appetising alternative!

What about bee wax, lanolin or honey...?

"What about lanolin, beeswax, or honey?"

AS they're animal byproducts they're not vegan. I had a vegan ex who wouldn't even eat honey nut cheerios!

I also imagine it wouldn'th make a difference how "natural" lanolin, beeswax, or honey are if you were allergic to any of those things. I know my sister-in-law has terrible reactions to lanolin. That said, I like my Burt's Bees lip balm better than plain old chapstick (with honey and beeswax). My lips feel better and it also tastes better!

Here's a thought: you could technically claim a product was "natural" if it contained lead, arsenic, or plutonium! Those are all naturally occurring elements. I think sometimes people confuse "natural" with "wholesome" or "helpful".

I've heard that lanolin and bee wax cause allergy..so why cosmetics companies use them.

Does lanolin have any extra property?
It sounds disgusting that lanolin is a product of the process of purifying sheep wool... sheep fat?

I don't find lanolin (sheep wool fat) disgusting. It's cleaned before they use it in cosmetics.
In winter I use a day cream with lanolin because it's often cold and stormy here and it protects my skin.

I like natural products as my skin behaves better with them. I try to avoid things with a lot of chemicals in them.

I'm totally indifferent. If a natural product works well, wonderful. If not, well...we're humans and we have the good fortune to create suitable alternatives. To be sure, one or two generations back there was a tendency to err on the side of artificial products and ingredients. Nowadays, I cannot think of a manufacturer of ANY product that would not prefer to say "natural ingredients".

So when natural products work, great! I am in love with LUSH body and skin care products, for example. When they don't, so be it.

Erica

Oh yes: lanolin... it may sound odd but the water-repellent lipids in lanolin really don't have an equivalent in the natural or artificial worlds. For some applications they're indispensible. Thanks, sheep!
