First thing first, black hair is not easy to dye or streak. It is one of the most difficult colors to lift or get streaked the reason is because black hair normally has a base color and that could be red or blue. If the hair is not properly done You can end up with orange or purple hair. I don't think you want that. Before you do anything drastic try a temporary Semi permanent color is a Dark Mahogany or Cherry see what it looks like and how it wears if you are happy with the results then ask a stylist what permanent color you could use.
If you wish to high lite your hair have it done by a professional.

Yeah i agree with judi, i myslef have black hair, and it is difficult to my hair with sum colours. I find that mahogany coloyrs work well even copperish colors too. If u r getting it dyed for the 1st time then judi is right u shud get it done professionaly

go with the mahogany you will have a better chance with that color than the Redish Brown. Let us know how it comes out.

Ahh...why do I always see negative points...may be I'm being extensively critical (most of the time) but I have to add this as I feel it is very very important.
As Judi and ultimateprincess mentioned try your best not to do it your self. Make an effort to find some time to go to a professional and get it done. I've heard (I'm sure the rest of you have as well) lots of horror stories of people coloring their hair by them selves. Results do not show immidiately after you colour but may be months after that people notice that they've damaged their hair. So try not to do it on your own to get the best results and it'll benefit you in the long run...
