Hey everyone. I have recently been wanting to go to a dark auburn or a brown hair color, and I was wondering how that could be done with my hair being so light. Right now some parts of my hair are platinum blonde, but the bangs are my natural strawberry blonde color, with a lot more red there. I would really like to try this myself to experiment. If anyone has any helpful tips that would be great.

Luckily going from light to dark is far easier than going dark to light. How much darker do you want to go? You should find pictures of your current hair colour and the one you're looking to achieve. That would give us a better sense of how to help you here.
For example, my natural colour is a dark auburn like this one: ![]() The colour I've got now looks more like this: ![]() I had to use a dye that was quite a few shades lighter than the desired colour to achieve the amount of lift and vibrancy that I wanted since my natural colour was pretty dark. If you could find pictures to illustrate the type of change you're looking to make, I think it would really help.

To be quite frank, you are taking a major chance doing this change up yourself, there are so many things that can go wrong, the color being not even close to what you wanted the highlites that you have can go anyware from a pink to a green in a very short time. Red is a wonderful color but it is a color that is not predictable when you have bleach or processed hair already. ( Believe me I am speaking from some major disaster that I would not wish on my worst enemy) Brown still have red in them, unless you go for a brown with ash, at your age it will not be very becoming. Do yourself a favour, either have it done by a pro or let it be for a while and use a 12-24 shampoo semipermanent rinse.

I agree with those who suggest going to a professional. It's hard to give advise without being able to see your hair and seeing a photo of what you want. You could go to the store and buy a box of home hair color and experiment for yourself, but remember that not all experiments turn out for the best.

Definatley go to a hairdresser. I made the mistake once of going from blonde to brunette and I didn't get the result I wanted. It is worth spending a bit of extra money and going to a professional.
