My hair is very dark naturally but I had a level 2 put on it last summer. Permament color on the roots and semi on the rest ongoing. It was very pretty, dramatic and shiny. But lately I want a change.
It's so dark, I don't know if anything can be done to change or highlight it. Have any of you ever been able to get free of black hair dye? |

Lightening dark chemically colored hair can be tricky and potenetially damaging to the hair, so I'd go to a salon rather than try it at home, but it can done. You might want to do a deep conditioning treatment or two first.

I see my stylist soon for a hair trim. The salon is having a color sale in 2 weeks and I'll just tell her what I have been thinking about in the way of change. I think some subtle dark gold highlights(?) But not if too damaging.
Thanks blackbird. ![]() |

Your stylist show be able to tell you if your hair is healthy enough, but I do warn you that they will get you to sign a wavier (most do) because they are lifting store bought dye and sometimes it can be unpredictable.
Good luck and let us know how it come out.

Thanks, Judi--wasn't store-bought dye at least. For awhile I was going to Penney's for color and now I go to a gal at Regis. And she does the best job of trimming long hair ever.

I agree with Judi, go to a salon. I am growing out the color in my hair because it is too damaged to redye.
Argh. Oh well Good luck with your hair color! |

Yep, ditto what Judi said.
![]() Your stylist can look at your hair and judge it's strength.
