Default I'm thinking about a haircut

I'm thinking about getting a new haircut.
I've had long hair (from just-below-shoulder length at it's shortest to just below mid-back at it's longest) for almost 5 years now, and although I love my hair, I'm getting ready for a change. I'm 38 years old, going to be 39 in June. That's within spitting distance of being 40.

Currently, my hair length is just touching my bra-strap, it's all one length, no layers, other than bangs that I started growing out last summer that are now just under my chin. It's very thick and heavy, and it's naturally wavy. I usually just let it dry naturally because it takes too much time (about an hour) to blow-dry and style.

I've known for a while that I'm getting tired of my hair. Last summer I cut it from mid-back to just below-shoulder, but I wasn't really ready to let go of the idea of long hair, so I let it grow back out. This summer, I'm really dreading having to wear it up all the time. It's so boring. Since I've grown out my bangs there's nothing there to soften my face, and when my hair is down I feel like it drags my entire face down. I feel like it's just making me look older.

I have an appointment for next Saturday, which gives me plenty of time to decide what I want to do. It's a big step, but I'm feeling ready to make the change this time. I want to move on to a trendier cut.

I'll be surfing the internet and checking out magazines for photos of a good hairstyle. Any suggestions from anyone here?

Hey Blackbird, there are several good mags out there, also go to the library full of info on different styles (books sorry I did not say that to begin with)
I like the following sites as well
http://hairstyles.free-beauty-tips.c...airstyles.html
http://www.ivillage.com
the last one listed I belive you find the hairstyles under beauty.

Hi Blackbird, have you thought about keeping most of the length but really layering it so it is lighter and has more body than if it is mostly one length. This is the style I am considering right now.

I reckon shoulder length hair with a few layers would look great on you since you have nice wavy hair. It's always nice to have a change after having the same style for ages. Just make sure that you're not going to regret it before you do it. Good luck and keep us updated!

You could also ask for more shaping around your face, because that will make your hair look most noticable different. Often, if people just get layers put in or get it taken up a few inches, it isnt so noticable.
I'd still recommend layers too though!!
post a picture when it's been cut
xx

I've started "collecting" photos for ideas. LOL
I definitely want layers, because it's just so thick and heavy all one length, and I want a change from what I have. I'm actually looking forward to getting rid of some of this hair this time around!
I like this one...
