Unhappy Extremely Dry Hair

Does anyone know a good natural remedy for extremely dry hair?

My extremely dry hair is caused by constant coloring and anti dandruff shampoo. I color my hair (roots only) every 6 weeks and this caused my hair to be extremely dry even though I go for salon treatment after every color and once in between color.

I also used home hair treatment as conditioner after every wash and my hair is still very dry.

Sometimes, I used Nizoral or Polytar and sometimes anti-dandruff from dermatologist when it gets too bad.

You sound like you need moisture, not necessarily a deep treatment with oils. Natural moisture is honey, distilled water, and/or glycerine. Honey can be mixed 50/50 with your normal conditioner, left on for as long as you want, then rinsed off with warm water. In the winter time I use a distilled water spritzer almost every day. It helps with static too. I use:

4 ounces of distilled water in a small spray bottle
4-5 drops of your favorite essential oil
4-5 drops of jojoba or coconut oil

Shake well before using. This is safe to use on a daily basis.

That is very interesting. Thanks for the tip. I sometimes suffer from dry hair too and I have been looking for a good natural solution. I will be trying this soon.

Do you color for gray? I am in between about it, I have heard that coloring plumps up your hair a bit, but I have also heard that it's drying, too. I used to color my hair all the time, I have found that your natural color is better than you think it is. Since I have stopped my hair is softer and more shiny. Also about the dandruff, I would suggest to stop using shampoo and try a homemade scalp treatment, it is meant to cleanse the scalp to promote hair growth and health that might be all you need, and hopefully solve your dilemma. Here are a couple of recipies I have used and like.:
1 T. grated fresh ginger
1 T. sesame or jojoba oil.
~ Massage into scalp, leave on at least 30 min. shampoo and condition as usual.

1 C. green tea used from 1 tea bag
3 t. lemon juice
1 t. cider or white vinegar
2 sprigs of rosemary
~Massage, shampoo and rinse, you do not need to let this one sit.
Hope this helps!

Yes, I color to cover my gray. I have been doing it for about 8 years.
Thanks for the suggestion but can I confirm that T. means teaspoon or tablespoon and C. means cup and t. means teaspoon.

In your second recipe, would it cause dryness with lemon juice and vinegar.

Merry Xmas to you...

Anti Dandruff shampoos and colored hair do not mix. Try to increase you levels of omega oils and biotin to try to help with the dry scalp. Perhaps take a break from permanent coloring and use a semi permanent for a few months. This is what I do and it work well and gets your hair back in shape.

Default dry hair

Try to avoid using overly hot dryers and heat-styling implements, and wear a hat or scarf if you're going to be exposed to sun or wind for a long time (at the beach or skiing, for instance).

Don't wash your hair every day -- unless you have an oily scalp, only shampoo often enough to remove dirt and buildup, about two or three times a week.
here you may find some more information on preventing dry hair: http://www.jurgita.com/articles-id4.html
