Default Weird dandruff???

So i have no idea what is going on with my scalp. I have tried head and shoulders, selsun blue, and right now am currently using a salon shampoo....a paul mitchell one with tea tree oil.

My problem....chronic dandruff/dry scalp/something funky. Its basically at the front of the hairline, and down and around my part, as well as the back of the head, nothing around the ears. The second problem is, its not normal dandruff. Its these little white "tubey" things around individual hair shafts, near the base of the scalp. They do not flake off, but rather need to be gently slid down, almost like nits from head lice. HOWEVER they are not eggs, as i have had my mother check my head numerous times.

My questions are....what the heck is this stuff, and how can i get rid of it? Natural or purchasing things, either or.

Thank you very much ladies.

Hmmm, I've never heard of tubey dandruff, that is odd. I've had dandruff that seemed to be just around the hairline, and decided it was from washing my face and getting soap in my hairline and not getting it rinsed out. Don't know if that helps you at all, but it might be something to consider. I've also used that Paul Mitchell tea tree oil shampoo, it usually works pretty well. Also, product build-up in the hair can cause flakiness, but I don't know if that's what's going on here or not.

you could try ketaconazole shampoo. it is a fungal shampoo, sometimes when we don't allow our hair to dry a fungus can grow. it isn't that you are not clean it is just the condition of our skin that allows this fungus. i think there is a nizoral shampoo over the counter but i know for sure there is a prescription one. i have psoriasis on my head. it is patchy dry skin. it is a bummer. at least if you have an infection on your scalp, you can get rid of it. good luck.

Here's another thought, I wonder if a sugar scrub on the scalp might help?

Thanks ladies for some thoughts and suggestions.
It is deffinatly not a product buildup, as i do not use anything besides shampoo and a conditioner.
I think i will either give the nizoral a shot, or maybe the sugar scrub? Blackbird, could you tell me more about it?
Thanks again everyone for your thoughts.

Try a clairifing shampoo, even if you do not use product your regular shampoo and conditioner can cause a build up. Plus this also will remove any chemicals or medication that you may be on that has built up on your hair and scalp. Try Pantene.

When I've done a sugar scrub, I just dampened my hair and scrubbed a handfull of brown sugar on my scalp. It will dissolve when it's wet. Then you can shampoo however you choose.

Me too, I have a long time problem with dandruff. What I used to eliminate it is applying Coconut oil in my scalp.

I had the exact same problem for years i had flakes and itchy scalp and could not figure out why i tried every dandruff shampoo every made, then one day i went to a new hair dresser and she told my i had psoriasis not dandruff so i started using a psoriasis shampoo and it cleared up within a week. Those "tubey" things are actually oil build up from your scalps over production of sebum (scalp oil).
