I'm going to do it, I'm getting gel nails. I'm so tired of breaking my nails and having to cut the rest back that I've decided to get a set of gel nails. Please, if anyone has ever had horrifying nightmares about having them done please tell me. My biggest fear is a nail fungus, two of my girlfriends had to deal with that. I know there may be some negative results but I really want nice looking nails. And I think nail polish seems to adhere better to gel nails, or I may be trying to convince myself that I'm doing the right thing. Any feedback would be appreciated.

first thing make sure you go to a reputable salon, someone that guarantees their work and will take you in immediately if there are in problems. The salon tools should be in sanitation liquid before using or take your own. The reason for the majority of nail infections is because of dirty tools and operators that are not trained to look after their tools and and cleanse. Find out how long it should take them if they say around 15 minutes run for the door.
On your part upkeep is important keep the nail and cuticles clean make sure you clean under your nail very well. One thing I will warn you about is once they come off it takes a while for your natural nail to recover and in some rare cases women have lost one of two of their own nails and this goes back to upkeep. Hope this helps. Also try to keep your nail up, keep your appointment and get fixes ASAP.

Thanks Judi, all of those things scare me because I've heard that things can go bad getting gel nails. I know to ask how they sanitize their tools and someone else told me it's not a quick in and out. It should take some time to get a complete set. Now you have me rethinking the whole idea. I wouldn't want to lose any of my real nails at all. Thanks again for your input.

I agree with Judi, going to a reputable salon rather than the mall quickie place makes a world of difference. Proper sanatization is key, as is proper training and using quality materials. Talk to a nail technician at a salon, if she's experienced, she can also answer a lot of questions for you and put you more at ease.

I've had gel nails before and I find that they break easily...you might want to try acrylic with gel overlay
