Thumbs up Nail Hardener

My nails are quite long, and have a natural french manicure look to them. My problem is that they are quite thin, and bend VERY easily.

I have tried two different products to try and make them stronger, Sally Hansen Age Correct Strength and Witchcraft Nail Hardener.

Sally Hansen has a much thicker consistency, and is difficult to apply an even coat. It also takes a very long time to dry, and can become a bit 'goopy' if you apply too much. The directions say to apply every other day, but if you do that, you must remove the old coats first. Otherwise, it becomes too thick, and chips off easily. Also, I found it very difficult to take off. While it gave my nails a nice finish, I didn't find that it made them any stronger. I wouldn't recommend it.

Witchcraft is a very simple product to use. It has a much less thicker consistency, and is easy to apply. It covers well, and dries very fast. The bottle suggests applying twice a week, but I found that applying it every couple days works best. You don't necessarily need to remove the old coats before applying a new one. The only downside to it is that if you apply too many coats, it peels off very easily. That being said, any cheap nailpolish remover will take it off completely. It is also the cheaper of the two products.

After using Witchcraft Nail Hardener, my nails have become much stronger, and healthier looking. (I apologize for the crappy picture quality.)

Yes, nice nails.

Another option you might consider is taking Biotin supplements. Biotin helps strengthen and promote growth for hair & nails.

I take the biotin supplements (5000mcg/day) and my nails are stronger and grow like crazy. Great for your hair too.

Thin/brittle nails have never been an issue with me - one of the few good consequences of being "chromosomally incorrect" is that the nails tend to be MUCH stronger. However, my SO used to have a problem with this and really liked a clear polish called Mega Hard. I think it was by L'Oreal and I don't know if they still make it.

Thin and weak nails have been a problem for me for years because I swim competitively. I used to rely on Sally Hansen (it was right there in the drug store) but lately I like Nail-Aid's pink natural growth therapy. It doesn't smell so toxic and it leaves a nice pink shine on the nails. Their brush-on wrap is awesome as well; you can only get them from
