I am a bridesmaid in my brother-in-laws wedding in June. The dress is going to be red, I have pale skin and have'nt found a red lipstick shade that looks good on me. I need to find a color that won't clash with the dress but won't make me look awful either. I smoke also, so my teeth are'nt exactly white. Any suggestions?

Hi there!!!
What I would do in your situation is buy a treatment of Crest Whitestrips to whiten your teeth-it works so well!!!! (I did it a year ago and I couldn't believe the amount of people that said "wow, your teeth are white".)Secondly, get a "light red" with warm undertones like a hint of orange in it. If you get a red that has either brown undertones or purple....it will look way too harsh and that will just make a pale face paler. Another tip is to put a little shimmer or gloss over your lipstick-makes it look "softer" and not so harsh. Hope this helps. I use to do make-overs. Oh-and don't wear black eyeliner-only browns. One other thing you could do is line your lips in red lip pencil and then use a red tint gloss to fill it in. It would give you a softner look.

Ya that would work well too Judi.....by the way, you said that you lived in Edmonton? I use to live there too (in the mid-eighties). I lived in Callingwood Court. Beautiful city! What part do you live in?

Also do you know of a good self tanner or something? I'm going out in the sun some to try to get a little more color and am thinking of going to a tanning bed a few times, I have used a couple different kinds of self tanner but they all looked streaky and stained my hands even after I washed them. I don't have alot of money to spend on it but need help. I don't wanna be really pale in June with a bright red dress. I'm just afraid of looking awful and ruining the pictures. I have medium brown hair green eyes and fairly light skin, not exactly a good combination for a red dress!

If you find fake-tan doesn't work for you, you could use a moisturiser which builds up colour in a more natural-looking way. Johnson & Johnsons holiday skin moisturiser is meant to be very good for this as well as being affordable. Alternatively, you could get a professional spray tan if you don't mind the cost. I wouldn't recommend sun-beds, or at least regular use of them, as they can be harmful to the skin and have been linked to diseases such as melanoma. Also, in relation to the lipstick question, I would agree with Judi to say that you should wear a red lipgloss, I have a really nice one (rimmel stars vinyl lips -movie star) which is red and sparkly. Good luck with the wedding! I'm sure you won't ruin the photos- as long as you smile you will look gorgeous!

if you haven't been happy with self-tanners, why not try a bronzing powder? Most lines make one now and as long as you just put a touch of it on-all over-you'll achieve that nice glow and it will look nice with red lipstick. Good luck!

Thats a good point-- I forgot about that! Bronzers are also available in cream formula- I generally find that easier to blend, but it varies from person to person
