Default How do you exactly cover up a blemish?

Share what works best for you!

I feel like my method is a little excessive.. it takes a long time, but in the end, it looks nice. I would love to try what works for you gals

1) cover with liquid green foundation to neutralize red color
2) wait to completely dry
3) apply liquid concealor
4) wait to completely dry
5) "blend in" a little
6) set off with loose powder

i hear coverage for stick/powder/liquid concealors are all different... I don't know, because I've only tried liquid. Liquid is supposedly the one with least coverage, so I hear. What do you think?

I think this method is waaay too long... The theory is sound, the application is complicated.

Liquids are not that effective in covering blemishes because liquid means sheer.

Remember, blemishes sit on top of the skin and are shiny (slippery). That's why liquids will slide off blemishes. And here is why.

Microscopically, the skin has the texture of an orange peel. A blemish, the texture of a ping-pong ball. Now, take a coloured oil/water mixture to simulate a liquid concealer and cover the ping-pong ball. What happens?

Does the oil/water mixture stay? How about the colour (representing the pigment in the concealer)? Is it transfering onto the ball?

Simple chemistry, biology and common sense will give you your answer.

First off, you need the exact opposite shade of green to cancel out the the exact shade of red. If your shades are off you will look pasty. There are about 50,000 shades of red and the same amount of green shades. Human skin has 16 colours in it. So to match the correct shade of green to cover the exact shade of red is well... you get the picture. Remember, not all people have the same shade of reddness in their skin. The Solution?

1) Powder the blemish first using a velour puff. This will give the concealer something to stick to.

2) Take a small amount (the size of the end of a ball point pen) of a red neutralizer corrector (which is a pasty/beige colour) NOT green. And is cream based.

3) Mix this in with your foundation on a palette, not the face... very important.

4) Take a concealer brush and with the end bristles, (the very top of the bristles) dip the brush into the concealer/foundation mixture and lightly tap it on top of the blemish. NEVER sweep the brush or use the side of the brush bristles, as this will take away the coverage.

5) Powder the blemish with a velour puff to set it.

If you have a powder brush, just dip the side of the brush into your powder, tap off the excess and gently press the side of the brush onto the blemish. Again, NEVER sweeping your brush.

With this method, there is no waiting for things to dry and it usually takes about 20 seconds for this 5 step application. It will take longer if you have a lot of blemishes that you need to cover up.

Good luck and have fun

Vogueboy, in your opinion....how do you really cover up dark circles so they stay covered all day? No matter how much concealer I pile on, I can always still see dark circles under my eyes....
