There are So many make-up brush cleaners on the market now. I'd invest in one.

The average brush costs about $20 and should last a lifetime if properly cleaned, disinfected and conditioned. All brush cleaners on the market do this.

And brush cleaners are not that expensive. Remember, your brushes are your investment.

Yes... Unfortunately, the cap constantly leaks, thus the outside of the bottle becomes a dry, sticky mess that reeks of Teatree oil.

Here is something I wrote on my blog. Maybe you can find this helpful!

Cleaning your makeup brushes is necessary to keep them in the best shape. It also eliminates bacteria from your brushes that can cause breakouts. I have helped many women with their skin challenges with this tip alone. Think about it. Bacteria from the oils in your skin are in your brush and if you don't clean them often enough, that bacteria gets on your face.

There are many products available to clean your makeup brushes. I will give you a few tips to keep your brushes clean and in the best shape. Cleaning makeup brushes can be a pain in the ass but it is necessary if you want a fresh look.

Brush Cleaner: You can purchase a brush cleaner from a department store or beauty supply store. My favorite is Japonesque Professional Brush Cleaner. It has a citrusy smell and will clean makeup, disinfect and conditions the hair of the brush as well.

Spray Japonesque Professional Brush cleaner on a clean paper towel. Brush the makeup brush back and forth across the paper towel and brush cleaner. The makeup brush will be dry after you're done! This is great to do daily after your makeup application. Clean brushes also help your makeup go on better too. Nothing is worse than applying an eyeshadow or blush with a brush that has been dipped in several different colors!

Another option is to use vinegar and water. I do this after every wedding when I get home. I used 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar. Dip your brushes in the mixtures and rinse clean in warm water. This will disinfect your brushes so if multiple people use them, this is a great option over a brush cleaner. I usually do this after I wash them with a mild shampoo and rinse.

For the following cleaning options I recommend putting the product into your hand, dipping the brush in a small amount of water and lathering the makeup brush thoroughly. Then rinse with warm water and lay flat on a towel to dry.

Shampoo: It doesn't really matter what kind of shampoo you use but shampoo works great for cleaning your makeup brushes. Remember, makeup brushes are hair and shampoo works great on yours, right? I also like to use a little hair conditioner on them after the Vinegar and water trick. It keeps them soft.

Facial Cleanser: A gentle cleanser works well for cleaning your makeup brushes. If it will remove the makeup from your face, it will remove the makeup from your brush.
How often should you clean your makeup brushes? It depends on the brush. Any brush you use on a liquid cosmetic should be cleaned everyday; such as, concealer, foundation, lip products and cream eye shadow. For other brushes I would recommend as often as once a week.
