Well, it's definitely not lavender... but if you are at a loss for what to give, a great starting point is Chanel No. 5. It's classic, mature and very very sexy. (From male perspective, it's also one of the few scents that can be clearly identified. I could not tell you 99.9% of the perfumes on the market by smell...but I can easily tell Ch#5.)

There are so many to choose from out there, it's really hard to say without knowing some of your friend's preferences. Some people like floral fragrances, some like spicy scents, earthy, woody, musk, oriental, water...... there's so many different types, not to mention combinations of types.
You might want to visit a fragrance counter at a department store ask what's popular, and smell a few testers.

Some of the new ones that are out smell wonderful. Kelly Caleche by Hermes is modern and leathery. Creed is more expensive but have great hand-made fragrances with no synthetics...I suggest Spring Flowers. Also there is a new Burberry which is ok and the most popular one i think is Flowerbomb. I would suggest finding out what type of fragrance she likes, which you can read about here for types of fragrance and other beauty stuff on this beauty blog so you can get a better understanding of what different fragrances are out there.

I usually gift a fragrance that seems neutral since fragrances are personal. I'd go for something they can wear at anytime of the day and in any season. Hope that helps!
