When you apply your eyeliner, don't apply it all the way to the extreme edge of the corner of your eye, (leave a very small space at the corner).

Thus, when you're blinking, the eyeliner won't smudge or travel past the outer corners.

Hope this helps

You can also use a defining brush (that's the one that has a perfectly thin, square edge: ) and the eye shadow color of your choice--brown, blue, deep plum, black...you name it. Wet the tip of the brush and mix with the shadow in a separate container, or in the lid of the shadow, until you get a light paste (don't apply this too wet or it will run into your eyes...ouch), and tap a line into your lash line. It will stay on, no smudgies. If you make a mistake, wet the end of a cotton swab and just wipe away what you don't want.

I always use this technique (except that I mix the shadow with PD's Transformer http://store.yahoo.net/pauladorf/pp-...ansformer.html) with all studio make up I do and it is amazing!

I just read about another one by Too Faced (http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...goryId=C10996), but I've never tried it.

To use Paula Dorf's transformer, you just use the brush I mentioned above--a square eye definer brush (see the picture...this one is by MAC, but you can find this type of brush at most cosmetics counters or even your local art supply store).

To apply liner: Put one drop of the transformer in the lid of your eyeshadow. Wet the tip of the brush in the transformer and mix with the shadow until you get a light paste (don't apply this too wet or it will run into your eyes...ouch), and tap the edge of the brush into your lash line. If you make a mistake, wet the end of a cotton swab and just wipe away what you don't want.

Lise Watier makes a Transformer as well.

And Yes, yes, yes, That's an amazing technique Sullygulliver and it's really, really cool...

It's amazing how some tips and tricks are universal among Artists, outside of the "text book" techniques...

I put foudation on my eyelids then set it with powder before I put eye makeup on. It seems to keep ,whatever I put on my eyelids, from smearing. Works everytime.

Saphron, regular foundation is a good base for your eye makeup. I have found that cream concealer or eye primer is even better--for some reason the thicker/stickier formulation really "holds" the eye makeup, lengthens the life of your eye shadows and makes for a truer color.
