Hello. I am just wondering what your opinion might be regarding permanent makeup? I am unfortunate in the eyebrow department (they are light in color and sparsely grown in) and I was considering tattooing. However, I have seen horrid pictures of orange, blue and purple, pencil thin eyebrows that being to bleed and fade over time! Has anyone had success with this? I have seen pictures of a technique called "feathering" or "hairline stroke design" and the results look pretty good. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would'nt but that me. I know lots of people that have had it done, but as they age it begins to look nasty and when your face changes it no long suits you.

Even if you go to a top-notch person to do this, the results are often not ideal. I'd be very careful in making this decision, as the consequences of a poor job are (1) frightful and (2) permanent.

Your best bet is to get it done in the Middle East, where they have over 2000 years of make-up experience. Having said that...
Tattooing inks over there are different than the inks here in NA, where over time, the ink becomes a faded greenish/purplish colour. I've worked on several Middle Eastern women who where in there mid '40s and they had gotten permanent eyeliners and eyebrows done when they were (so they claimed) in their 20's. And the colour and shape still looked sharp and intense. And they only had gotten it done once. On the other hand... I've worked on a lot of Asian women as well, and their permanent make-up, brows, eyeliner, lipliner etc. looked very dated, it was all a faded green, brows were a half circle shape, there were gaps in the eyeliner and I can go on and on... But you get the idea... The moral of this story is: Do your research, approach this like you are getting any other tattoo... By taking your time to see if this is what you really want, and like Erica has said if the salon does botch it... It's permanent Again, any type of tattooing is an investment. And having a tattoo done on your face is a lot different than getting a tattoo done on your arm. So again, I reiterate, go to where the professionals are... The Middle East.

Not for me. I wear semi -permanent makeup that doesn't smudge, i have a remover that takes it off at the end of the day. Less complicated, less expensive and I can change colors!

I had perminant makeup done on my eyebrows over a year ago due to a plucking problems I was having. -Now it's been a while since I had it done so I can't recall the exact specifications of my artists method but there are different mothods for different artists. I no longer have the plucking problem and my brows did grow out pretty again but I still have some color underneith and it actually works as a nice accent to my real brow color. I would say that the proceedure requires you to do your homework and research the methods you are told about. I came in with makeup on my brows to show her how I wanted them to look and what color/s to use. It takes about two weeks and maybe even a touch-up or two (most places will give you three free) for the actual look to become apparent; it will look darker when it's new than after it's healed but you will use a lot less pencil in the long run. -I don't even need a pencil anymore between the regrowth and the permaninant makeup but I sometimes still use a little for dramatic effect. -mine did not look drawn in and you had to come within inches of my face to tell they were not entirly real. I would recommend it if you are self concious about your brows; just find a good artist and do your research. -hope this helps. -J.

I read in Carmindy's "Five Minute Face" that permanent makeup is never a good idea; as we age and our skin loses elasticity, the eyebrows might droop a bit, so if they're tattooed on, then they won't look right.

no to permanent makeup, the needles using damages the skin inside.

I don't think permanent make-up is a good thing. I personally think it looks really weird and fake, and with permanent make-up, it's hard to switch up how you look. With natural make-up you can constantly change the way your face looks by using different colors and techniques. Permanent make-up limits that.

yikes!! trusting somebody to tattoo something on my face in hopes that its something i will like not only now, but for the rest of my life is scary. like it was said above, a tattoo on your face is totally different then one on your arm, back etc. you have to sit down and think about this long term. personally im just too picky and realistic to ever think this is would be a good idea.
