Default The Day I Realized Less is More

Hello!

I'm a newbie here. Seems like everyone here's pretty cool. Anyway, anyone here getting to a point where they realized they don't need that much makeup?
I have, lol. Actually, 3 years ago, on New Years, I looked in the mirror and thought, "WOW, I don't even recognize myself under all this makeup". It was actually kind of sad. I had foundation, concealer, powder, full eye-makeup, blush, and lipstick...and I was 20! I guess I just didn't believe in myself enough to pull back at that point but right after that happened I washed it all off and started just wearing mascara, some translucent powder and lip gloss.

That helped me re-gain confidence and now I wear make-up a lot more sensibly and I don't look 10 years older anymore! Yes, I do indulge sometimes but I'm not as obsessive about my flaws. Well, just wanted to tell my little story

Welcome to the UC forums!
Sounds like you had an "ah ha" moment.
My personal philosophy on make up that it's a creative outlet, I don't need it to be confident in myself.
I think it's a good thing to discover that you are beautiful with or without make up.

Have you watched snog, marry, avoid? the first ever make under show. its amazing you see these girls covered in make up only too realise there gorgeous under all that make up. yes, make up can cover all those bits you dont like, but you just have to be comfortabel with yourself. less is defenutly more. its only there too enhance not hide. its good you've realised that too welcome.

Welcome to the forum! Great to have you here. It's also great that you were able to come to that realization about yourself...good for you!

For what should be obvious reasons, though, a fair amount of makeup will be part of my life indefinitely

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Dancing Flame: I've never heard of that show but it sounds pretty cool.

Blackbird: Yeah I definitely use more makeup when I'm feeling more creative.

Erica: Makeup will also be in my life forever, I love it and I think now I'm just more comfortable with it because I'm more comfortable with myself.

Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forums, I think we all once have found that moment where you say "what am I doing" and why. We live and learn from tv and the mags and it seems the only way to be beautiful is with tons of makeup.
Then comes the Hah moment when one day you slip out of the house with the bare minimum on and someone say you just look beautiful today, you go home look in that mirror and say damn their right.

welcome to the forums. I'm yet to have a moment like that, unfortunately my skin is so awful that I don't feel I can go out without foundation on hopefully it will get better soon though

Judi - That's exactly it. But sometimes I just have to try that new look I saw somewhere and I'll put on more than usual. I find when I put concealer on, it looks like a lot of makeup, so I try not to use it.

DancingFlame - Aww man! The videos aren't available for North America...Too bad, I wanted to see it

Rose - Well right now I'm breaking out and if I were going anywhere today I'd wear foundation for sure. But I wear a sheer, medium coverage foundation (Oil-free by LORAC) and I mix it with a luminizer which helps to diffuse any flaws. Before my little "ah-ha" moment I would have really piled it on because I thought I was ugly but I'm more rational about it now, lol.
