I'm getting married in April and looking forward to doing my own makeup. While I have ideas of my own, I'd appreciate some more tips!
My dress is cream with silver beading, my hair will be down and I have dark hair, pale skin and blue eyes. I need tips on how to highlight my eyes and how to get my makeup (especially eyeliner and foundation) to stay. Sometimes, I use Revlon Skinlights on my cheeks and eyelids, should I use it for the wedding or will it look dated in years to come? Also, I want a natural, enhanced look that'll work for photography. Thanks! Last edited by HibiscusTea : 02-01-2006 at 08:18 AM. |

Okay... You've sweated enough... First, congratulations on your Wedding. Use a "Long-lasting" formulation for your foundation and waterproof liners, (lip and eye). Most brands carry "Long-lasting" formulations. Just make sure you moisturize and drink lots of water... You'll be dehydrated from the night before from your rehearsal and your bachelorette party. To highlight your eyes, don't go heavy on your liner. There's a couple of Threads here on neat "eyeliner tricks"... just gotta search the forum. Curl your lashes and apply 2 coats of a waterproof volumizing mascara, perferably in black. Yeah, I see nothing wrong with using Revlon - Skinlights as your colour choice. Just keep it Classic. Nothing trendy or stylized, - nothing dates a wedding picture faster than a trendy, stylized make-up application. I would highly recommend hiring a Make-up Artist though. It's one less thing that you have to worry about, what, with all that stress around weddng planning an' all. If not, you're on the right track with these tips. Good Luck, ![]()

I agree with Vogue. You should definitely hire someone. It doesn't have to be expensive either, but you want to look your best, after all, it is your wedding day! You definitely want a more dramatic look than your everyday look. Your make-up may look heavy when applied, but make-up doesn't show up as well in photos (ecspecially black and white). Long-lasting formulas are the best option for you.
-Start with a clean face. -Apply concealer in areas where needed. Blend well in small circulars. -Using foundation and a sponge, apply it to the t-zone area and blend outwards well in small circulars. Add more coverage where needed. -Wetten your sponge and go back over areas that you may have gone overboard with, and goover your jawline too, to make any make-up lines go away. -Finish with a loose, translucent powder. This will soak up in any excess skin and keep your face matte. -You might want to use a sunless tanner, or go to a spray-on booth. Or maybe just add a hint of color to your face/neck area. (That's really up to you.) -Put blush on the apples of your cheeks. -Curl your eyelashes. -Apply a neutral eyeshadow. Tan works for everyone. Even if you do want more eyeshadow, a neutral will give anything else you add some staying power. -There are tons of eye looks. You could try the dimension eyeshadowing technique, which is applying 3 different coordinated shades, blending them together on top of one another. (ex. light pink, darker pink, tan/biege or pinkish purple) -Use liquid eyeliner-not pencil. It will come off too easily. Wing it out on the side if you like. Try a thicker line than your normally would. -Mascara is a must. If not, opt for some false eyelashes to achieve the best eyes possible! -Lip color is a must too, even if it's light. Shiny lip gloss and even sheer tints instantly make you look more polished and put-together. It all really depends on your own personal tastes. These are just some ideas to get you thinking. But I do think you'd be so much better off paying someone to do it, so you wouldn't have to put all the guesswork into it. Plus, you wouldn't have to buy any products, unless you wanted them to use something special for you. I would also suggest splurging on a professional photographer. The pictures really are important. I mean, they're all you will have to remember your wedding day 20 years from now. Good luck. |

Although I agree, this would be the perfect solution in an ideal world, it isn't always practical - weddings are probably the single most expensive event we will wever stage! Of course you could have a limitless budget, HibiscusTea, but if like myself you are working on a Budget (I managed to stage my January church wedding and reception for 100 people last year for about GBP£5,000!) this may not be a solution. If you do go down this road I would also recommend a couple of sessions with the make-up artist. My cousin had her make-up applied for her by a professional and she was not at all happy with the results - the make-up artist paid no attention to what my cousin wanted, at one point going so far as to tell her that she(The make-up artist) was the professional and to relax and let her work her magic. Although the result looked fine to everyone else it wasn't what my cousin wanted and looked far too heavy. Not to put you off though! I'm sure if you state your case clearly, a good make-up artist will carry out your wishes on your big day. Whoever does your make-up, a big tip for blue eyes (I have blue eyes and used this on my wedding day) is brown! Going to the opposite end of the colour spectrum makes your eyes 'pop' in the most pretty way. It works the other way too - Brown eyes/blue shadow, Green eyes/purple shadow etc. You will still have a nice earthy, neutral palette to work with but use a slightly darker brown shadow along you lash line and in the socket area, it will really make your peepers stand out. The most important beauty tip though is to relax and enjoy yourself - it's your day and nothing lights a face up better than an easy, natural smile. I wish you all the best for your big day and more importantly, for yourself and your husband in your new life together.

Thanks for all your wonderful tips!
I'm not hiring a makeup-artist because I'm actually in a very small city in China (one of about 15 foreigners here) and the makeup artists love white foundation (all the women want whiter skin), bright eyeshadows and glitter for weddings! It looks fab on them but I want a natural look and would feel safer if I did it! Today, I searched all the shops and came up with one compact of neutral eyeshadows, the rest were bright, rainbow colours.. Maybe I'll relent and do a trial run, but I don't want glitter in my eye ![]() Last edited by HibiscusTea : 02-03-2006 at 09:48 AM. |
