High-Tech Scar-Minimizing Treatments

Scars usually fade over time. In the interim, camouflage make-up can help conceal scars while they heal. Here are some common dermatological treatments used to minimize scars and refine the skin:

Dermabrasion or microdermabrasion

Either technique can be used to minimize small irregularities like surgical scars or acne scars. It involves removing the surface layers of the skin with an electrical implement that abrades the skin, resulting in smoother skin. Note that dermabrasion is a more invasive procedure and is only performed by a medical doctor. Microdermabrasion can have a similar effect, but requires a series of treatments to be effective. A trained esthetician or a dermatologist can perform microdermabrasion.

Chemical peels

The peels used to treat superficial facial scarring remove the top layer of the skin, causing it to regenerate and eventually take on a more uniform appearance. The most common chemical peels are TCA peels and glycolic glycolic peels. Depending upon the strength of the chemical solution, peels might need to be repopulated to see results. For serious scarring, chemical peels should be performed under medical supervision.

Injections

Injectable fillers are an option for plumping up sunken scars. The most common fillers for scarring are collagen (derived from purified bovine collagen) and restylin (derived from hyaluronic acid). Injections are temporary and must be performed by a board-certified physician.

Laser resurfacing

This method refers to C02 and Erbium Yag lasers used to remove the skin’s surface layer(s) and burn off damaged skin. In addition to minimizing fine scars, lasers can lessen the look of wrinkles.

Default Best scar remedy

I used to have an acne before and it really makes me inferior every time. I tried many products in market but no use. It will take time for the acne to heal fully, at least in my case it takes time (more than 6 months). Thanks for Anna one of my friend who recommend me Zenmed scar treatment and it works fine. Thanks Zenmed for such a quality product. I am very please with the results of the products (Zenmed Scar Treatment).

I have lots of pimples scars for about 15 years and had used may skin care products to try to improve them. It didnt work until I started using SKII skin care and now my scars are very light and can only be seen close up.

In addition, constantly hydrating your skin helps heals the scars too. I use Clinique moisture surge daily and use hydrating mask every 2 days.

Salon microdermabrasion treatments can also help make scarring, particularly acne, less noticeable. Microdermabrasion is the process of applying tiny ammonium oxide crystals to the skin, and removing them with a light suction, which also removes any surface debris. (One of my clients likened it to sandblasting- well, same idea, just much gentler.) Usually it takes a series of at least 4, as the effects are progressive. I see a noticeable difference on my clients after even 2 treatments. Make sure that the esthetician or dermatologist keeps the machine on a fairly low setting, though- otherwise skin irritation can occur. Other areas of the body can also be treated. I then recommend following up at home with a non abrasive exfoliant, like Gentle Cream Exfoliant by Dermalogica, to enhance the results. This product uses alpha-hydroxy acids, and is applied like a masque, and leaves the skin amazingly smooth.
