Thumbs down Dry skin around my eyes.

Just last week I've noticed dry skin around my eyes, particularly my right eye. It's so dry that even after applying lotion, I still cannot use concealer because the skin will just flake up and look like the floor of a desert. The dark circle area has even turned a little red.

So far I've been using a moisturising eye cream for just a few days, but I'm interested in seeing what caused this. I was told it was from sleep deprivation, but that doesn't really make much sense. I can't be that I'm dehydrated either.

I'd also like to mention that I live in Southern California, and we've been getting Santa Ana winds (since it's fall now), which causes me to have very dry, itchy skin. Is that the culprit?

Believe it or not lack of sleep can cause this I get this quite often and the winds won't help. I suggest using a eye cream that replenishes the area around the eye. I use Vitamin E oil around my eyes and it makes a world of difference, also from Biotherm there is a product that is quite good for this problem and it is in the Hydra line and its focus is to replenish lost moisture around the eyes and keep the problems from reoccurring.

What kind of concealer can I at least use in the meantime to cover up the slightly red skin that formed over the somewhat dark circle? I've read somewhere that a pen concealer would work for dry skin, but I'm afraid flakes of dry skin would just reappear.

Again you would need a hydrating cream concealer, Try cover-Fx, Avene and some of the Physicans Formula.

"Again"? All you mentioned were hydrating creams...no "hydrating cream concealers".

I actually own a Physicians Formula pen concealer, but, again, ended up with the flakey under-eye skin. I'll continue moisturizing to give this more time and take a look at your other recommendations. Thank you.

sorry what I meant was you would need the same in a concealer as you would in a eye cream.

i used to have that problem. Try going to bed early and moisturizing that area. And if you can help it, try to avoid make up altogether.

I have the same problem, being on Retin-A. What helps is just plain old vaseline at night. Its kinda greasy, but in the morning when I put my concealer on, it seems to not flake anymore.

I wish. I have to wear makeup to work though.

You know what, I think I'll give that a try. I always wash my face and moisturize with lotion before applying makeup, but even when I applying eye cream around the area I still experienced flakes. Hopefully the vaseline would be different.

Thank you.

Get more Omega 3-6-9 in your diet. That helps with dry skin. Benefit makes anice concealer.
